syncd Connect

Terms of Use

The honest version, in the order you meet it: what syncd is, who ends up in your circle, what the subscription does, and what none of it can promise.

What syncd is

syncd keeps a household's map, lists, calendar, chat and photographs in one place. It is not a monitored alarm service: an SOS or a possible-collision alert sends a signal to the people in your circle, and nobody else is watching. No call is placed to any emergency service.

Your account

You sign in with Apple, and one account covers every device you sign in on. Keep hold of that Apple ID — it is the only key to your account. The name your circle sees is the one in your profile, and you can change it there.

Invites, and who ends up in your circle

An invite code is a bearer token: whoever holds it can join with it, once, within the seven days it lasts. Send it to the person you meant to send it to.

Seats depend on the plan — four on Free, ten on Family, twenty-five on Family Plus. The owner can remove a member at any time, and any member can leave.

The plan and the bill

The subscription is sold by the App Store and charged to your Apple ID, at the price shown on the paywall, in your own currency and storefront.

It covers the whole circle. The plan belongs to the circle rather than to the person who paid, so a family keeps it for the period already paid for even if the payer leaves.

It renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least a day before the current period ends, and cancelling is done in your Apple ID settings — the app cannot cancel it for you. Closing a circle does not cancel it either: the bill is between you and the App Store, and it stops when you cancel it there.

A free trial, when the store is offering one, is shown on the paywall together with the price that follows it. Cancel before it ends and nothing is charged.

Apple's standard licence agreement

What is yours

Your photographs and your words stay yours. You give syncd what it needs to store them and show them to your circle, and that is the whole of the permission. Do not put anything in a circle that is not yours to share, or that someone in it has asked you not to.

Fair use

What location data can and cannot do

Where a phone is comes from its GPS, its network and its battery. It can be stale, wrong or missing — indoors, underground, with the phone switched off, on low power, or with sharing turned off by a hand that is not yours. Alerts can be delayed by the network or by the phone's own power saving.

Do not rely on syncd as the only way to reach someone in an emergency.

Availability, and changes

Features change as the app does. A plan buys the features the app has, not a promise that they will never change. These terms change with them, and the date at the top changes with the copy.

syncd is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, its authors are not liable for indirect losses — a missed alert, an inaccurate position, a lost photograph — and nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer.
